Dinorah-Marie Hudson

Classes & Curriculum Specialist

Fellowship Specialist

Dinorah-Marie “Dina” Hudson is a doctoral candidate in the Urban Education program at the CUNY Graduate Center whose research examines how climate education in frontline communities can cultivate Freirean problem-posing and critical learning. She is from the Bronx and former New York City public high school science teacher of two decades, teaching Earth and Earth and Environmental Science, Astronomy and Physics.  Her doctoral work draws on quantitative, qualitative, and autoethnographic research methods to explore the relationships between climate education, and the lived experience of teachers and students. As a Classes & Curriculum Co-Lead for the NYC Climate Justice Hub, she co-creates professional learning experiences that connect CUNY educators, students, and community organizations across New York City. In her role as an adjunct lecturer at CUNY Lehman College, she introduces new and emerging science teachers to place-based and responsive methods of teaching, supporting educators in developing learning experiences that link local environmental issues to student agency and New York State Science Learning Standards. She has also published articles focused on community-university partnerships, environmental racism, and the conceptions and implementations of culturally responsive pedagogy. Beyond her academic work, Dina enjoys painting, exploring local hiking trails, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who inspire her work toward sustainable futures.
