The NYC Climate Justice Hub’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) Is On!
September 18 to December 18th, 2025
The NYC Climate Justice Hub has been running its second annual Professional Learning Community (PLC) since September, with students, faculty, and climate justice activists representing various CUNY campuses, NYC-EJA member organizations, and other institutions.
These semester-long, book club-style conversation series, led by Hub staff members Dinorah Hudson and Kobie Colemon, are a space to explore climate justice (CJ) and environmental justice (EJ) challenges across NYC.
The PLC provides an inclusive forum for critical analysis of the socio-environmental factors influencing climate justice in the NYC’s working-class communities of color that the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA) serves.
This learning community also aims to support CUNY faculty, students, and community members in learning strategies for integrating environmental and climate justice themes into their studies, assignments, curricula, syllabi, projects, initiatives, campaigns, and everyday lives.

Discussion Topics and Syllabus
Participants engage in dynamic, facilitated conversations to cultivate an intergenerational community of climate justice leaders and activists. Discussion topics include:
- Climate justice (CJ) and environmental justice (EJ) in NYC
- Community-university partnerships
- NYC-EJA and its member organizations’ campaigns
- Best practices for EJ/CJ research
- Embedding EJ/CJ into curriculum and pedagogy
Discussions are in-person and based on optional (but highly recommended!) weekly readings.
