Canopy

Canopy: a tent or tree cover; a place of exchange, of shade, and of shelter, and, on our heating planet, important for protecting life.

It’s also our broad and encompassing call to work together towards the collective health of humans and the planet in a changing climate. Canopy aims to democratize and depolarize public conversations about climate through the lens of health. It seeks to highlight equitable approaches to co-creating adaptation and regeneration plans with respect to heat, water, air, and mental health.

Wellcome’s Creative and Cultural Advocacy team is working with local cultural lead based at CUNY Center for the Humanities, Dr. Rebecca Hayes Jacobs to develop Canopy, a citizen art, science and policy festival and a cross-sector collaborative network launching at Climate Week NYC 2024.

Canopy’s aim is to create a large, open and inclusive atmosphere where everyone is welcome to have a say on climate and health. Through local activations launching at Climate Week NYC, it will bring powerful decision-makers into conversation with the general public—especially those on the front lines of the health impacts of climate change—to share knowledge, create rapport, and accelerate policy change.  For more information about Canopy, visit the official website here.
