This event will take place in-person at John Jay College, Haaran Hall Room 630, 524 W 59th St, New York, NY 10019.

The NYC Climate Justice Hub will hold the Classes & Curriculum Spring Symposium and Workshop on Wednesday, April 29th, from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

This gathering serves as a critical bridge between frontline communities of color across NYC and CUNY stakeholders. The goal is to move beyond theoretical discussion and into the active “retooling” of our classrooms to support a Just Transition for New York City.

Event Highlights

Honoring Collaboration: We will begin by celebrating recent, successful partnerships between CUNY faculty, their students, and NYC-EJA member organizations that have driven tangible local impact.
Syllabus Workshop: The second half of the evening is a hands-on “Syllabus Lab.” We will work together to audit course modules, ensuring they prioritize community relevance and move away from extractive academic practices.
Strategic Networking: We will discuss navigating institutional constraints and highlight the robust climate justice programs already flourishing across the CUNY system.

Call to Action for Faculty

Participating faculty will bring a current syllabus to the workshop. We will be working in small groups to hear directly from community leaders about their campaign needs and priorities, to integrate anti-extraction strategies, and to identify literature that centers the lived experiences and needs of grassroots community organizations.
