Marie Incontrera
Marie Incontrera is a composer, conductor, pianist, and bandleader whose multi-genre work spans opera, big band, heavy metal, post-modern orchestra, and chamber music. As a composer, her work has been hailed as “deftly woven jazz and gospel elements” and “beguiling” (NY Times). Marie has been a recipient of the Miriam Gideon Composition Award, a winner of the Remarkable Theater Brigade Art Song Competition, and a finalist in the Iron Composer 2010 competition. Her work has been performed in Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Meridian Arts Festival in Bucharest, and other respected venues across the United States and internationally. Marie is the conductor and bandleader of the Eco-Music Big Band, a 15-piece multigenerational band that performs the work of its late founder Fred Ho and provides a platform for the next generation of big band composers through regular commissions and performances. Marie was Fred Ho’s last composition and conducting protege. In 2016 she co-founded jazz piano ensemble Shero Machine with Sissi Liu.
