Marcela Joya
Marcela Joya is a Colombian writer, scholar, and educator whose work bridges ethnomusicology, creative writing, and visual arts. She teaches in the Music Department at Hunter College and is a PhD student in Ethnomusicology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research focuses on the Latin American musical diaspora in New York, especially Latin jazz, gendered labor in performance, and the emergence of Colombian women in vallenato. She is currently a Diasporican Archives Fellow at CENTRO, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at CUNY.
