Editor of Distributaries
Madeleine Barnes is a writer, visual artist, & Ph.D. candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center. She serves as Creative Communications & Design Strategist and Co-Editor of Distributaries at the Center for the Humanities, where she leads editorial coordination, visual communications, and digital publishing initiatives across print and web platforms. Her work includes graphic design, web layout and content strategy, event publicity and documentation, social media campaigns, and editorial development for public-facing humanities projects.
During the 2025-26 academic year, she managed communications and project development for the CUNY Adjunct Incubator Awardees, guiding contributors through the creation, editing, design, and publication of projects for broad public audiences. She also developed visual identity materials, event graphics, and promotional campaigns for numerous Center programs, conferences, and publications.
Previously, Barnes served as a Writing Across the Curriculum Fellow at Baruch College, a Research Fellow at The Morgan Library & Museum, and a Public Humanities Fellow with the PublicsLab. She is the author of one full-length poetry collection and four hybrid chapbooks, and her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout New York and Pennsylvania.
