Joseph Semkiu
Joseph Semkiu (MA 2018, Tufts University; BA 2014, Northwestern University) is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Art History at the University of Southern California. Joseph studies twentieth-century American art, focusing on issues of the representation of gender and race, advertising, and cultural exchange. Current research interests include the surrealist and magic realist movements, especially the art of John Atherton, Jared French, and O. Louis Guglielmi. In 2018, he was awarded the Vose Scholarship for the Study of American Art History. Prior to joining USC, Joseph worked at the Art Institute of Chicago and the MFA, Boston.
