Harper Montgomery

Harper Montgomery is Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art at Hunter College where she teaches courses on global modernism and conceptualism, and on art and politics. Her writings have appeared in Art Journal, Modernism/Modernity, caa.reviews, Art Bulletin, and The Brooklyn Rail, and she co-edited Beyond the Aesthetic and the Anti-Aesthetic with James Elkins (Pennsylvania State University Press, 2013). She has also organized numerous exhibitions, including the San Juan Poligraphic Triennial, exhibitions of the work of Francis Alÿs, Felipe Dulzaides and Temporary Services, as well as on Conceptualism and nineteenth-century traveler artists’ images of Latin America. Her book The Mobility of Modernism: Art and Criticism in 1920s Latin America is forthcoming from the University of Texas Press, July 2017.
