Elizabeth Wollman

Elizabeth L. Wollman is associate professor of music at Baruch College, City University of New York, and serves as well on the doctoral faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center. She has written extensively about the contemporary stage musical and its relationship to popular music, American social and political movements, and the cultural history of New York City. She is the author of the books The Theater Will Rock: A History of the Rock Musical, from Hair to Hedwig (University of Michigan Press, 2006) and Hard Times: The Adult Musical in 1970s New York City (Oxford University Press, 2012), which won the 2013 Philip Brett Award. She is currently completing The Critical Companion to the American Stage Musical for Bloomsbury/Methuen and, with Jessica Sternfeld, co-editing The Routledge Companion to the Post-1970 American Stage Musical, which is projected for publication in 2018.
