Beverly Naidus

Beverly Naidus left the limelight of the NY and LA art worlds, to teach and make art as a subversive activity in the margins. She helps students find their creative voices, think critically about dominant culture and connect the dots between art and other subjects. She has created a unique interdisciplinary studio curriculum inspired by her own interactive, socially engaged projects. Courses like Eco-art, Cultural Identity and Art, Art in a Time of War and Body Image and Art allow each student to tap into their own stories, learn about the topic and collaborate. Her book, Arts for Change: Teaching Outside the Frame, shares her process and the stories of 33 other socially engaged artists who teach. Although she loves her current students at UW Tacoma, the institution has been steadily withdrawing support for her work, so she has begun facilitating art for social change workshops in her studio in Seattle.
