Programs Manager

Alexandra (Alex) Millatmal is a multi-hyphenate artist-academic-engineer who remains in love with the world outside of (impacted by, apart from, in spite of) tech. A Pushcart-nominated writer, Alex’s work has appeared in The Margins, What is Afghan Punk Rock, Anyway?, Koukash Review, and elsewhere. After a decade working in software engineering, she is currently pursuing her MA in Digital Humanities at the CUNY Graduate Center. As the Programs Manager for the Center for the Humanities, Alex is eager to traverse the boundaries of “public” and “private” scholarship and of artistic and scholarly expression, particularly in a time of increasing collective consciousness and great communal need. Born and raised in Nebraska on Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Pawnee, and Otoe-Missouria territory, Alex now lives in Brooklyn, on the land of the Munsee Lenape and Canarsee peoples. Her own family’s lineage is shaped by histories of war, occupation, migration, and displacement, themes she returns to in her academic and creative processes. She is the daughter of Debra and Tajuddin, proud older sister to Hatsanda and Budloon, and steward to two elderly housecats, BAMF and Shamousa.
