Join the Hunter College School of Education—Equity and Advocacy Committee with Urban Word NYC Artist Director, Mahogany L. Browne for “Urban Word: Poetry and Pedagogy,” a mentor showcase and panel. Events will include poetry and performance by Urban Word artists followed by a panel conversation about ways schools and neighboring communities can use these kinds of platforms as pedagogical leverage for multiple literacies. The panel will include Urban Word artists, NYC teachers, and Hunter faculty who will engage in a dynamic conversation around infusion of culturally sustaining and critical literacies within our school communities. This event is open to the public, including any students, teachers, parents, and administrators interested in the perspectives of young people and the power of the arts in understanding issues of education today.
