Poetry! Friendship! Witness!
A gathering of Clare Coss‘ friends to read their poetries in celebration of life, language, possibility.
Readings by Meena Alexander, Cheryl Clarke, Kathy Engel, Elizabeth Lorde-Rollins MD, Rachael Mayer, Kamilah Aisha Moon, Margaret Randall, Claire Reed, Sandra Robinson, Yamberlie Tavarez, and Surprise Poet.
Clare Coss, playwright and psychotherapist, editor of Lambda Literary Award finalist The Arc of Love: An Anthology of Lesbian LovePoems (Scribner), served as Poetry Editor for Affilia, and On the Issues. Her recent theatre productions include Dr. Du Bois and Miss Ovington (Broadway Play Publishers), produced by New Federal Theatre’s Woodie King, Jr., starring Kathleen Chalfant and Tim Simonson, and her prize winning play Emmett, Down in My Heart, directed by Erica Gould, Castillo Theatre. Currently composer Mary Watkins has completed a beautiful, haunting piano vocal score for Coss’ libretto, Emmett Till, the opera. She feels blessed to have lived with poets throughout the life she shares with Blanche Wiesen Cook, in the beginning Audre Lorde and Adrienne Rich, the splendid roster of poets who generously are gifting their talents on this occasion, and the many more who have enhanced their lives.
