12:00 PM–1:30 PM
Hunter College, 68th Street and Lexington. West Building, Faculty Staff Cafe, 8th floor. Free and open to Hunter students, faculty, staff and members of the broader public.
Join us at Hunter College for the public launch of the CUNY Climate Assembly Project on Waste (CCAP), February 20th, 12- 1:30 pm. From April – June 2026, this new democratic initiative will gather a broadly representative group of Hunter students to learn, deliberate, and democratically develop waste management strategies for vertical urban campuses, like Hunter.
The event will introduce the CCAP process and include a live civic lottery to select the Assembly delegates that reflect the diversity of the Hunter community. Campus leadership, students, and NYC community partners will be present to celebrate the launch and affirm their support for the work ahead. Networking with refreshments and small bites will take place at the end of the event.
Climate/Civic Assemblies are an innovative method for civic problem-solving, with over 700 examples worldwide, but Hunter College will lead the nation as the first university-convened climate assembly in the US.
The partnership between Hunter College ( Vice President for Administration, Office of the Provost, Hunter Green, The Sustainability Council, and The Center for Sustainable Cities) and CUNY Graduate Center (Center for the Humanities and the Institute for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean) is made possible by the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Address: Hunter West Building, Faculty Staff Cafe, 8th floor ( 68th Street and Lexington)
