June 6, 2018

Are you interested in youth organizing? Do you want to be part of a growing youth activist movement? Are you interested in having a voice on school policies affecting YOUth? Do you think you deserve a better education?
Join a team of youth interns from across NYC to organize a YOUth-Led Summit on Education Justice, Art, and Activism! We’re looking for artists, organizers, strategic thinkers, social-media aces, and tech-savvy woke folx between the ages of 15-20. No experience necessary. We want people who are ready to make moves while getting some coins!
Allies in Education: Building Coalitions for Youth-Driven Research and Advocacy, a research team from the Center for the Humanities at the Graduate Center, CUNY, is looking to collaborate with youth from NYC to create a youth-summit on youth activism and justice in school. We could organize this on our own, but we really think its best to give youth the opportunity, space, and $$$ to create change.
Expectations and Requirements:
- Be a NYC resident between 15-20
- Commit to 2 meetings per month (about 10 hours per month) between August and December, 2018
- Be ready to work with other youth to plan and organize a youth summit for justice and youth voice
- Receive a $750 stipend for your work and a subway pass so you can get to and from work
What You’ll Do and Skills You’ll Learn:
- Networking: Learn about conference/summit organizing by talking to other youth organizers from around the country.
- Collaboration: Work with a group of other youth to develop a summit theme for educational change, plan activities, set-up and host the event.
- Artivism: Use your artistic or creative skills to design flyers, logos and promotional items with a message about education justice, for the summit.
- Communication and Outreach: Reach out to local non-profits, schools, youth, and businesses to tell them about our event through email, social media, and in-person.
