2026 Center for the Humanities Annual Report: Humanities in Action!
October 28, 2026
We are delighted to showcase our Annual Report for 2025-2026!
We believe the work of the humanities is more important than ever, and should be at the vanguard of creating processes to make life worth living, together. Our Center is made up of a strong and committed staff team who work collaboratively with hundreds of educators, students and community members to create infrastructure, scholarship and training across the humanities and humanistic social sciences throughout CUNY and NYC. Some of the core aspects of our work over this year have included:
- Fellowships, internships, mentorships, and cohort-based learning programs supporting over 135 students across the CUNY system
- Transdisciplinary collaboration through working groups, reading groups, interdisciplinary seminars, public programs, and professional training programs
- Research partnership, technical assistance, and small grants
- Publications through Lost & Found, Distributaries and Women’s Studies Quarterly (WSQ)
- Public scholarship projects such as the Public Scholarship Practice Space (PS2), CUNY Climate Assembly Project and NYC Climate Justice Hub
“Throughout our history, the Center has stretched the boundaries of humanities discourse and practice by fostering collaborations among humanists, social scientists, environmental scientists, community members, policymakers, and artists. Together we advance critical scholarship with social impact aims.”
–Kendra Sullivan, Director, Center for Humanities
At the core of our work is community building and space-making for critical and engaged dialogue. To this end, over this past year, the Center helped organize 76 programs and hosted over 6080 attendees in person at the CUNY Graduate Center.
“I see the thoughtful, courageous, necessary programming that the Center for the Humanities team is presenting. It is vital for the CUNY community, the City, and for the ripples it sends out into the world. It is crucial for the participating artists to have platforms and payment for their work right now.”
–Rosamond King, Honors Academy Chair and Professor of English at Brooklyn College
