Join artists Jesse Goldstein and Elizabeth Knafo for a workshop to discuss their Rare Earth Catalog: Tools for Reckoning with the Anthropocene (including a reckoning with the term Anthropocene itself). We will introduce the first issues of the catalog, and envision how a second issue of the catalog can take shape. The catalog is a repository of tools: from the critical, to the conceptual, to the practical, that can help us resist, rework, redefine, and remember the interconnections of our socio-ecological present. The project seeks to describe who and what have produced this particular moment on earth, and why this moment matters. While consciously playing with and critiquing the original Whole Earth Catalog, Goldstein and Knafo have named their catalog after rare earth minerals, whose extraction is one example of the eco-cidal proclivities of industrial-scale life.
