After Lorca: A Day of Poetry and Performance

Wed, May 1, 2013

5:00 PM–9:00 PM

Federico García Lorca’s impact on modern and contemporary American poetry is vast; he is also one of Spain’s greatest dramatists, whose lyrical, revolutionary plays are rich with folk mythology, ritual, and social critique distilled through a radical lyricism. “After Lorca,” a daylong festival of performance and poetry, offers a multitude of responses to traditional and radical receptions of Lorca in the US.

Poets and performers Rob Fitterman, Cole Heinowitz, Harmony Holiday, Sabrina Lastman, Mariana Luna, Eileen Myles, Judah Rubin, Sara Jane Stoner,Marcos Wasem, Aynsley Vandenbroucke and the Aynsley Vandenbroucke Movement Group and others explore the tensions between urban and pastoral, foreign and American, mapped and experimental, as well as the often-unexamined queerness of Lorca’s work.

“After Lorca” is part of LORCA IN NEW YORK: A CELEBRATION (April 5-July 21, 2013), the largest-ever festival in North America celebrating the work of acclaimed Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca. Presented by Fundación Federico García with support from Acción Cultural Española. For more information about the festival please visit http://lorcanyc.com
