OS.XXI: Art History and the Digital Turn

Art history is one field that interrogates the relationship between form and content; media theory is another. What new insights into the present conditions of cultural production emerge by bringing these disciplines into dialogue? Do the analyses of digital information offered by media theory demand that we rethink the methodologies traditionally employed to analyse visual art, poetry and music? Are we in the midst of new paradigms with outmoded tools – or are there more continuities than ruptures? This intensive seminar will meet once a month to discuss the work of Friedrich Kittler, Vilém Flusser, Boris Groys, Jonathan Sterne and others.
