CUNY Public History Collective

The
CUNY Public History Collective is based in the History program and the Center for the Humanities at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center. While pursuing
academic training in history, our members are creating and engaging with the
public through new and innovative scholarship in museums, tours, digital
history, archives, education, and public history’s many other forms.

Our
group’s goals are to integrate public history into the History department at
the Graduate Center, CUNY and to promote and develop public history projects at CUNY
and beyond. Monthly meetings are open and offer a constructive and critical
space to present your public scholarship to a diverse group of public
historians. At these meetings we periodically host outside public historians
from a range of specialties who discuss their projects. Finally, and perhaps
most popular, the group attends field trips outside the GC which range from
walking tours outside to “behind-the-scenes” exhibit visits led by museum
curators. Visit our website here for
more information and to see what’s coming next! The CUNY Public History Collective Working Group is led by co-chairs Arinn Amer (Graduate Center, CUNY) and Madeline DeDe-Panken (Graduate Center, CUNY).

This working group is a component of Narrating Change, Changing Narratives, an interdisciplinary research group that employs public humanities practices and explores narration as a guide for social change. The group is supported by the Mellon Seminar on Public Engagement and Collaborative Research.
