About the research team

This project will use a shared public display and conversation starter that uses the artificial intelligence system known as “Natural Language Processing” or NLP to examine how digital systems respond to and understand the feedback of people contributing to shared public displays. The project acts as a public conversation piece that happens in real time between participants on the street or in the library and the system itself collecting input from cellphones. The result is a playful experience where visitors can feel more connected to the space the project inhabits as well as the history or location it resides.

Collective Voice: Digital Conversations in Public Space examines potential dialogues created through digital platforms, testing the possibilities of anonymity, public discourse and collective voice in live, interactive public displays.
