About the event

Dear Friend of the Center for the Humanities:

For the first time in 20 years, we are asking for your help.

Each year, the city provides less funding for the humanities, and each year, our programming with artists, poets, activists and scholars becomes more necessary. You are part of a diverse intellectual community that we believe both the city and the City University of New York cannot live without. We are turning to you to help us make up the gap.

Our myriad free public programs have now been augmented by two other major public initiatives: the James Gallery, a free exhibition space on the ground floor of the Graduate Center, which we've transformed into a dynamic programming and exhibition space for contemporary art, and Lost & Found: the CUNY Poetics Document Initiative, a beautifully researched and presented publication which makes archival material available to the public. This spring we will roll out another season of excellent programs, ranging from an exhibition on philosopher Alexandre Kojeve's photographs to our annual and much beloved chapbook festival.

We are delighted at your enthusiasm, and hope you might be willing to show your support for us, and for each other, by donating to The Center for the Humanities this year. Whether you are able to afford to give $50 or more, your support will mightily strengthen our position at The Graduate Center and at CUNY as a whole.

You are the loyal audience who make our programs possible, and we come to you with gratitude and trust that you will think of us as the year ends.

Yours sincerely,

Aoibheann Sweeney
Executive Director
