Marcos Teixeira de Souza received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Candido Mendes University in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. His dissertation discusses contemporary festivals in the state of Espírito Santo that emphasized racial integration. While working at the Ministry of Health, he serves as professor at Universidade Estácio de Sá and researcher at Centro de Estudos Afro-Asiáticos - CEAA.  He has co-edited several books including Pomeranos no Brasil: olhares, vozes e histórias de um povo with Sandra Márcia de Melo and Afro-Brasil—Debates e Pensamentos with Dr. Jacques D’Adesky.
