John Matteson is Distinguished Professor of English at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and deputy director of the Leon Levy Center for Biography. He is the author of Eden’s Outcasts (2008) and The Lives of Margaret Fuller (2012), and he is an opera aficionado.
