Gary Rhoades is Professor of Higher Education at The University of Arizona and the former general secretary for the American Association of University Professors. His scholarship focuses on the restructuring of academic institutions and of professions in the academy, as well as on science and technology policy, and comparative higher education. He is the author of Managed Professionals: Unionized Faculty and Restructuring Academic Labor (SUNY Press, 1998), Academic Capitalism and the New Economy with Sheila Slaughter (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2004), and numerous journal articles.
