Cherelle Mathis was born in the south Bronx and raised in Westchester County. She attended Greenburgh North Castle high school in Valhalla New York, where she graduated Salutatorian.  She received her Associates Degree with honors from Westchester Community College, and she is currently a junior at Lehman College. As an avid reader and lover of poetry, she chose to embark on an undergraduate degree in English. Her overall goal, however, is to take her knowledge of literature and language and apply it to a degree in the medical field. She is currently a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society (XAE).

In her spare time, she volunteers at Gigi's Playhouse, a nonprofit organization for children with Down Syndrome; SWB radio, an independent station that offers up and coming artists a chance to display their talents; and she tutors Anatomy and Physiology. She was blessed to have a beautiful son who was born with Mosaic Down Syndrome. It is because of him that she continues to move forward and push past the adversities that life hands her.
