Bhakti Shringarpure is a writer and academic who received a BA in Literature from Bard College and a PhD in Comparative Literature from the City University of New York. She focuses on literature emerging from civil wars in the aftermath of European colonialism with an emphasis on narratives of nation, violence, gender and the figure of the "other." She has written for several independent magazines and journals and currently teaches postcolonial literature and theory/criticism at Hunter College.
