Barbara Taylor is professor of history at the University of East London specializing in Enlightenment history, gender studies, and the history of subjectivity. Her publications include Eve and the New Jerusalem: Socialism and Feminism in the 19th Century; Mary Wollstonecraft and the Feminist Imagination; Women, Gender and Enlightenment (co-edited with Sarah Knott); and On Kindness (co-written with Adam Phillips). Currently she is editing (with Sally Alexander) a book of articles exploring the relationship between psychoanalysis and history, and writing a historical memoir on the mental health system in late 20th century Britain. She is also the reviews editor of History Workshop Journal, and contributes regularly to the London Review of Books.
