B Stone is a doctoral candidate in political science at the Graduate Center, CUNY. Stone’s research interests include discourse analysis, critical “addiction” studies, and American political culture. Stone’s dissertation project, “Political ‘Addictions’: Willpower and U.S. Public Policy,” is an ordinary language analysis of what “addiction” means when used to describe political issues, and an exploration of how the concept furthers policy agendas by raising anxieties about willpower and independence.
