​Tashima Thomas

Tashima Thomas is a PhD Candidate in the Art History department at Rutgers University where she holds the Center for Cultural Analysis Dissertation Fellowship. She specializes in the art of the African Diaspora in the Americas and focuses on food pathways, comparative slave systems, commodity fetishism, race, gender, and sexuality. She holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Houston and an M.A. in Art History from San Diego State University. She is a Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral Fellow and the recipient of the Goldman Sachs Multicultural Afrolatino Junior Fellowship at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Her interests include: visual culture, fashion, film, music, popular culture, and critical race theory.
