Karim Tartoussieh

Karim Tartoussieh is a doctorate candidate at the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University. He is currently finishing his dissertation on Digital Disobedience, Culture, and Citizenship in Egypt. His work focuses on the politics of culture and representation in the Middle East with an emphasis on new media, post Islamism and cultural citizenship in Egypt since the mid 1990s. He taught courses on cultural politics at the American University of Paris, The New School and New York University. He has published articles on cinema and Islamic Revival, Islam, Media, and Cultural Policy, and Islamic digital diasporas. He has curated film programs for the Town House Gallery, Contemporary Image Collective in Cairo, and Al Riwaq Gallery in Bahrain.
