Jerrold Seigel

Jerrold Seigel is the Williams J. Kenan, Jr., emeritus professor of history at New York University. His research concerns the themes of social and cultural theory, the history of selfhood and subjectivity and relations between art and society. He is the author of Marx’s Fate: The Shape of a LifeBohemian Paris: Culture, Politics and the Boundaries of Bourgeois Life, 1830-1930The Private Worlds of Marcel Duchamp: Desire, Liberation and the Self in Modern Culture, and most recently, The Idea of the Self: Thought and Experience in Europe since the Seventeenth Century.
