Howard McGary
Howard McGary is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus, at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick. He received his PhD from the University of Minnesota, and his main research interests are African American philosophy, social and political philosophy, and normative ethics. McGary has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, and two books: Between Slavery and Freedom: Philosophy and American Slavery, co-authored with Bill E. Lawson (Indiana UP, 1993) and Race and Social Justice (Blackwell, 1999). His professional service to philosophy includes membership of the Executive Committee, American Philosophical Association (APA); APA Eastern Division Program Committee; Chair, APA Committee on Blacks; Vice-President, New York Society for the Study of Africana Philosophy; and being the founder and director of the Rutgers Summer Institute for Diversity in Philosophy.
