Gonzalo Martínez Herrera

Research Assistant

Gonzalo Martínez Herrera is a doctoral candidate in CUNY’s Earth and Environmental Sciences program. He holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Biological Sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

His research centers on a wide range of questions regarding plants and their relationships with the environment and people. In his B.S., he studied the ecology of semiarid grasslands, examining how spatial structure and environmental quality influence plant configurations. During his M.S., he focused on exploring the connections between climate change perceptions of Nahua farmers and their agricultural management practices in Sierra Negra, Mexico. Currently, his doctoral research is centered on the effects of a hydroelectric dam on plants and people’s relationships, exploring how displacement reconfigures these connections both materialistically and symbolically.
