Darby English

Darby English is the Carl Darling Buck Professor of Art History at the University of Chicago, where he teaches modern and contemporary European and American Art and Cultural Studies, and is the author of How to See a Work of Art in Total Darkness, published in 2007 by the MIT Press, and 1971: A Year in the Life of Color, forthcoming in 2016 from the University of Chicago Press. He is co-editor of Kara Walker: Narratives of a Negress, published in 2002 by the MIT Press, and Art History and Emergency, forthcoming from Yale University Press. English’s essays have appeared in Art Bulletin, Artforum, caareviews, The Guardian, The International Review of African-American Art and other venues. English is also Consulting Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art.
