Carla Kaplan
Carla Kaplan is the Davis Distinguished Professor of
American Literature at Northeastern University, an NEH “Public Scholar” Fellow,
and Chair of the Editorial Board of Signs,
as well as the author of the award-winning books Miss Anne in Harlem: The White Women of the Black Renaissance and Zora Neale Hurston: A Life in Letters,
both New York Times Notable Books. Her forthcoming biography is of Jessica
Mitford, called “Queen of the Muckrakers” – a British-born aristocrat who
became an American radical with a deep belief in fact-based news and the power
of citizen advocacy and activism.
