Brian Bentley
Brian Bentley is Director at Alexander Gray Associates. He was previously Manager of the Jaime Davidovich Foundation at the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA). He earned a Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, with the dissertation Pop Artists of Underdevelopment: 1960s Brazilian New Objectivity. He has an M.A. from the Institute of Fine Arts and a B.A. Honours from McGill University. He has held curatorial positions at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery, The Brooklyn Museum, and El Museo del Barrio. He was co-curator of Intimate Matters (2016), a group exhibition of NYU Steindhardt BFA artists, and researcher for the exhibition Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925–1945 (2020–21) at The Whitney Museum of American Art. His writing is published in Welcome to Videoland: Jaime Davidovich on Tape (Jaime Davidovich Foundation, 2021) and Paulo Bruscky: Artist Books and Films, 1970-2013 (Another Space, 2015). He was editorial assistant for Mário Pedrosa: Primary Documents (MoMA, 2015) and Carolee Thea’s On Curating II: Paradigm Shifts – Interviews with Fourteen International Curators (D.A.P., 2016).
