Albert G. Mosley

Al Mosley was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee, a small town about 75 miles north of Memphis and ten miles east of the Mississippi river. He graduated from segregated primary and secondary schools, began college at Tennessee State University, and transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a BS in math and a PhD in philosophy. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to Oxford University, where he studied with Rom Harré in the philosophy of science. Mosley has taught at Howard University, University of the District of Columbia, Ohio University, and is currently in the philosophy department at Smith College. He has published work in logic, philosophy of science, African philosophy, aesthetics, and affirmative action. He edited African Philosophy: Selected Readings (Pearson, 1995) and, together with Nicholas Capaldi, co-authored Affirmative Action: Social Justice or Unfair Preference? (Rowman & Littlefield, 1996) for the Point/Counterpoint: Philosophers Debate Contemporary Issues series. His logic text, co-authored with Eulalio Baltazar, can be downloaded at no cost from Amazon. Mosley has lectured in Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa. And he has performed with Olu Dara, Gil Scott Heron, Yusef Lateef, and many other renowned musicians in jazz and R&B.
