The Center for the Study of Women and Society, and Women Writing Women’s Lives present the Dorothy O. Helly Works-in-Progress Lecture “Writing the Women’s Movement, 1963 – 1991” by Honor Moore and Alix Kates Shulman.

Honor Moore and Alix Kates Shulman are co-editing WRITING THE WOMEN’S
MOVEMENT: American Feminism 1963-1991, which Library of America will publish in 2020, the centenary of women’s suffrage. In this talk, they will speak about working collaboratively to select 800 pages from the diverse and surprising writing of Second Wave feminism.

Honor Moore’s most recent books are the memoir The Bishop’s Daughter, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and Red Shoes (poems). For the Library of America, she edited Poems from the Women’s Movement. Her play Mourning Pictures (1974) was the first Broadway play to embody a second-wave feminist sensibility. Award-winning author Alix Kates Shulman has been a feminist activist since the 1960s. Her bestselling novel Memoirs of an Ex-Prom Queen is a feminist classic. Translated into 12 languages, her books include novels, memoirs, biography, and, most recently, A Marriage Agreement and Other Essays: Four Decades of Feminist Writing.
