Max Weber’s lifelong fascination with Leo Tolstoy illuminates much of his thinking. Join eminent sociologist Robert N. Bellah as he explores Weber’s notions of the “ethic of responsibility” and the “ethic of conviction.” Notwithstanding our tendency to think that Weber privileged the former, his preoccupation with Tolstoy helps us to understand why the ethics of conviction remained basic for Weber’s thought.
