Prelude.11: We Present a Presentation

Fri, Oct 14, 2011

4:00 PM–5:00 PM

When a group of actors gather together to give a presentation on a distant genocide, they realize that summaries based on history books aren’t nearly enough to capture the complexity of human extermination—or human interaction. In an honest attempt to delve deeper, they crash into their own simmering fears and unconscious bigotry and come face-to-face with the potential for brutality in all of us.

A recent trend across all disciplines has been a self-consciousness about modes of presentation and performance: performative lectures (Jake Hooker), theory-installations (Jackson Pollock Bar), and performances within performances (Jackie Sibblies Drury). Taking our lead from Drury’s play, this discussion will focus on these issues as they are played out in the festival.

Moderated by Prelude.11 curator Rob Marcato.
