LGBTQIA Representations and Italian Media

Thu, Sep 14, 2017

2:00 PM–8:00 PM

Room 9205

Join us for a 2-day workshop “LGBTQIA+ Representations and Italian Media” hosted at the Graduate Center, CUNY (September 14th) and the Casa Italiana of NYU (September 15th). This event is part of a series of workshops organized by QuIR, the Queer Italia Network.

Throughout a series of brief scholarly interventions, the participants of this workshop will look at representations of LGBTQIA+ minority communities produced by Italian socio-political media economies. Scholars working on topics ranging from AIDS narratives of famous writers, to group discourses on popular reality television, to dissident cinematic strategies of self-revelation, will share their work in a collaborative space. Participants of the workshop will directly engage with key questions that will serve as catalysts for discussions about the Italian media’s relationship to a variety of queer theories, methodologies, and identities. Open sessions and smaller group workshops will create an opportunity for dialogic engagement and possible future collaboration.

RSVP required: Those interested in attending should reserve their spots as soon as possible by emailing [email protected]. Please be advised that spaces are extremely limited to insure a free exchange of ideas in a communal more intimate atmosphere.

Fri, Sep 15th, 6:30-8:30pm, at NYU Casa Italiana, “Queer Media Italian Style: Film Screenings.”
Join us for an evening of film screenings of shorts films. These film screenings are free and open to the public. Click here for list of films and more information.

Cosponsored by the Comparative Literature Department at the Graduate Center, CUNY and The Arts and Humanities Research Council, The Casa Italiana of New York University.
