Feeling Beauty: A Neuroscientific Framework for Understanding Why the Arts May Be Sisters

Thu, Feb 23, 2012

6:00 PM

Join G. Gabrielle Starr (Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, NYU) for a discussion of some of the ways neuroscience allows us to understand the concept of the Sister Arts. Starr will explore the way aesthetic experiences happen in neural terms, making the multiplicity of artistic genres, and even the temporal fluidity of aesthetic life (the changes in one’s tastes, or even one’s stylistic apostasies) not just understandable but, she argues, essential to the very idea of the aesthetic. This a public program connected to “NeuroCultures.” For further information on this and other Seminars in the Humanities, see http://centerforthehumanities.org/seminars.
