This seminar brings together students, faculty and the public for an informal seminar on the development of the essay as a literary and social form.

Adam Kirsch is the author of two books of poetry, The Thousand Wells and Invasions, and several books of criticism, including, most recently, Why Trilling Matters and Rocket and Lightship: Essays on Literature and Ideas. He is a former senior editor at The New Republic, and his essays and reviews have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, and other publications. He is a columnist for Tablet Magazine and teaches at Columbia University.
