Meet the Black Brooklynites who defined New York City’s most populous borough through their search for social justice in Prithi Kanakamedala‘s new book Brooklynites: the Remarkable Story of the Free Black Communities that Shaped a Borough (NYU Press).
This is a story of land, home, labor, of New Yorkers past, and the legacy they left us. Join Prithi (Bronx Community College & CUNY Graduate Center) as we honor this unique nineteenth-century chapter in New York City’s history. Prithi will read excerpts from the book, followed by a reception. Books will be available for sale at the event.
