The 18th Annual Irving Howe Memorial Lecture
Join acclaimed humanist Wendy Lesser as she explores the legacy of Alexander Herzen (1812-1870), known as one of the progenitors of Russian Socialism but not as the literary talent he was. Herzen published close to a dozen works, including the social novel Who is to Blame? and the autobiography My Past and Thoughts. Focusing on Herzen’s mastery of craft, highlighted by passages from his remarkable autobiography, Wendy Lesser will make the case for Herzen’s place among the great Russian writers of the nineteenth century.
