Affect Theory
In the 21st century, affect has emerged as a productive site of theoretical reflection and political concern. This seminar will focus on some of the classical philosophical and literary-critical texts on the emotions, passions, affect, and feeling. Sessions on Kant, Wittgenstein, Lévinas, and Deleuze will set the stage for a number of discussions and debates regarding the bearing of aesthetics, psychoanalysis, and political theory on “affect theory.”
